Neutral salt spray corrosion testing, according to standard ASTM B117, has been a mainstay in corrosion testing for over 100 years.

The goal of the ASTM B117 Salt Spray test is to provide a controlled, accelerated, corrosive environment to evaluate the relative corrosion resistance of materials. While it doesn’t necessarily create excellent correlation to outdoor corrosive conditions, it produces results very quickly and has better repeatability and reproducibility than any other test, making it ideal for quality control testing of corrosion resistance.

Test Information:

Conditions: Continuous atomized salt fog with a chamber temperature of 35 °C
Solution: 5% Sodium Chloride solution with a pH of 6.5 to 7.2
Collections: 1-2 mL/hr when collected in an 10 cm (4in) diameter funnel
